Theistic Evolution: Did God Use Millions of Years to Create Us?
Can God’s Word and modern scientific theories ever truly agree? Well, that is what some believe. Remember that last time we spoke about Darwin’s evolution, which believes that all of us are a product of a million years of changing from one animal to another, until what we are today. Hopefully, enough proof was provided on our part that such a thing is neither scientific nor possible according to the laws of physics. Mr Darwin’s philosophy is nothing any more than a religion – a bad one for that matter. Today, however, we will spend just a few moments discussing another type of evolution, which seeks to combine Darwinism with Biblical Christianity, otherwise better known as Theistic Evolution.
Some well-meaning Christians believe that there is nothing impossible with God using a million years to create the universe. Because – according to them – “a thousand years is one day and one day is a thousand years”, so says 2 Peter 3:8. Which implies that 6 days of creation that we find in the book of Genesis can be converted into thousands of years from the perspective of the Almighty. What do you think? Is Theistic Evolution the solution to this whole argument?
If you ask me, indeed, anything is possible with the Almighty, however, I strongly believe that Theistic Evolution cannot be true, mainly because there are many problems and theological implications if such a thing were even remotely true. Let’s examine them, beginning with…
Death before sin
This is by far the most problematic aspect of this thought process. Think about it: if it took a million years for animals to evolve into different stages, then it means most of those animals had to live and die, way before mankind had come into existence. This goes against the entire story of sin and death because your Bible clearly states that it is the man who brought sin into the world, which then resulted in the curse of death upon everything in creation, including plants and animals (Rom 5:12). Therefore, Theistic Evolution is wrong; it can’t be true.
Sun before plants
It’s in verse 11 of Genesis 1 where we read, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth; and it was so.” It is only 3 verses later that we see the introduction of the sun and the moon. However, according to evolution, the universe exploded and formed the sun and stars before there was ever any hint of plant life. That is a problem.
Reptiles before birds
Similarly, Mr Darwin will have us believe that reptiles and other land animals came first before they evolved into birds. That is certainly the reverse of what God the Creator did according to the Biblical creation account. By the time we got to the creation of all land creeping animals (Gen 1:24), birds had long populated our beautiful skies (verse 20).
Man Created God
Another major problem with evolution is that it believes the concept of a God is man’s idea. According to them, man evolved from a primitive, non-intelligent being into a sophisticated, educated being who is able to imagine all sorts of things, including the idea of a Supreme Being. The reality, though, is that God is the beginner of life. He is the source of all intelligence that endows every creature, not the other way around.
Summary
The aim of this script was to prove, beyond doubt that any form of evolution is not true, and that it cannot be reconciled with Biblical truth. Indeed, “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” That only took 6 literal days, not a million years. As believers, it is critical that we stand firm on these things, lest we are deceived by the craftiness of the wicked; under the guise of “science”. Scientists are not all-knowing, in fact, they change their views now and then. Their theories and speculations come and go. There is only one constant truth – the holy Bible. Therefore, let us continue to believe it, defend it and above all, let’s proclaim its message to the salvation of mankind. Grace and peace.
