Get More Specific and Give Us Names!

Image
One of the greatest virtues of the Christian Gospel is clarity. That is, Scripture is clear on who God is, what He has done, and promises to do in the future; how He sees us, and what He expects us to do for His glory and also for our salvation. This kind of clarity is most helpful to our Christian souls, lest we find ourselves deep in confusion and idolatry. Since Believers are students of the Word, you would expect them to possess the same skill of clarity. That means we must be able to inform each other and the world at large about the truths of our God; to clearly delineate between truth and error, unbelievers and believers, and false teachers versus true ministers. Having said that, I fear – as I often do – that the modern Christian culture is working overtime to blur the lines of clarity. Most particularly us who are ministers; I believe we have not prioritized explaining to people the basics of the Christian faith, for example, I challenge you right now to randomly pick any chur...

Are Bloggers Causing Damage to the Body of Christ?

Image
Blogging is still a new trend that only shot to the top of the internet pyramid in these past 10 years, exactly the same period that social media became the public craze. If you still have no idea about what a blog is, allow me to define it for you. It is a certain form of a small website that aims to reach the public through written articles, mainly to discuss or “gossip” the latest news in entertainment, current affairs, or in this case, the church world.  Parallel to a blog, is what is called a vlog , which is more or less the same thing as a blog, except it uses video material as its outlet for gossip news. However, many believe that a blog and a vlog are more or less the same thing, hence whenever you hear anyone talking about “bloggers”, always assume they are using that umbrella term to mean vloggers ; those who publish small videos on Facebook or Youtube to talk about the trending scandals in the Christian Faith . What worries me is that bloggers are believed to be those g...

8 Profitable Ways to Read the Bible

Image
Bored and weary, I found myself scrolling aimlessly through Twitter, until lo and behold! My eye caught something called 8 Profitable Ways to read the Bible . After being blessed by such an edifying post, I figured some good soul had extracted it from a book called Practical Religion by J. C Ryle . Ryle was, without any doubt, one of the best ministers to ever grace the Christian world.  He was a Bishop somewhere in England, just about a few decades before our parents were born. Because I care about you, my fellow Christian brethren, I couldn’t let you miss this beautiful teaching, hence I had no choice but to do a copy and paste of that J. C Ryle content as it is. Check it out below and learn how to read the Bible…  1 . Begin reading your Bible today . The way to do a thing is to do it; and the way to read the Bible is actually to read it! It is not merely meaning, or wishing, or resolving, or intending, or thinking about it, which will advance you one step. You must positive...

Do Not Be Weary of Doing Good

Image
I stumbled upon a Bible verse which, as it often does, was not a new one. However, it did hit me in a new and fresh way. Before long I found myself eating my thoughts about that text. It is found somewhere in Galatians 6 and it’s got these words, “ …let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up .” Putting aside the reaping part (which I also don’t understand), the main thing that challenges me are these words, “Let us not be weary…of doing good.” What does it really mean to do good, and what is it that wearies God’s children from doing good and why?  How can we conjure up that strength to continue doing good even though it wearies our souls? What does it mean to do good? Doing good – according to my definition – is to use our time, bodies and resources to do something that adds value to the glory of Christ, the kingdom of God, and most particularly the lives of fellow humans. Which means as I am typing this document, I am “doing good” if...

The Man of God Must Be Different But Not DIFFERENT!

Image
Nothing is famous in the Church today as the phrase “man of God”. My Bible uses this term a few times to describe a man who has been chosen by the Lord for a specific task; somebody handpicked and enabled by divine power to lead others to Christ, most particularly through the preaching of the word. Having said that, today I only have two serious concerns about this man called a “man of God.” I pray the Lord may give you grace to hear them. The first thing that gives my soul sleepless nights about the man of God is that he has been elevated too much, especially in this Black Land of ours. He is viewed as a DIFFERENT individual who is almost like a god or something. The so-called “men of God” of our time have an unhealthy view about their self-impotence until they have so projected their images into untouchables who can neither be corrected nor criticized. These pitiful souls – Lord have mercy – claim to have a special anointing that sets them far apart from other believers, such that Go...

Drinking From Different Wells

Image
Okay (smile), I am going to teach you a good habit for your Christian growth. That is, if you are willing to really grow. Believe it or not, there is actually a weird bunch of “believers” who are neither concerned about growth nor interested in learning. Regardless, if you are like me, you are a student of this Christian Faith, who is always open to learning. The primal and only teacher in this Christian life is none other than the Spirit of Christ Himself. This is what Apostle John describes as “the Anointing that we all have from the Holy One that teaches us all things.” And the first avenue that He uses to teach is His own written Word; the Bible.  “Sanctify them by the Word, your Word is truth”, were the words of our Lord to His disciples. It means when we open the pages of Scripture, the Spirit of Christ is there to illuminate our minds so we can understand deep things about our Saviour and how He applies to our lives . The second means by which we are taught by the Anointing ...

Locating the Right Lady for Marriage

Image
I was listening to a local radio station and the topic was about the modern generation of men who are no longer interested in being married. In some sense, I can resonate with that because I remember the frustration I had when I was ready for marriage; there was no one among all the church ladies who was woman enough to deserve my hand of marriage. Why is this so, why does it seem like it is becoming harder for church boys to find suitable partners? Now as a disclaimer, this is a Believers-only discussion, we have no business with what worldly people do in the lust of their flesh. Nonetheless, suppose you were hunting for that dream girl, what characters would you look for? Let’s dig in… Salvation I am sorry, but this is non-negotiable. You can’t and you will not build any sustainable Christian home with an unbeliever. A goat will always be a goat and will by no means cooperate with sheep. As I hinted a few articles ago that the greatest challenge in the church today is that a great ma...
