Let’s Talk: Woman to Woman

Philippians 4:3
And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life .

One of the most tragic things about the church in Africa is that women are always the first time customers of every false prophet that pops up on every street corner throughout our black Land. If only you could take a tour on the ground and be amazed by the number of ladies that flock to these deception centres. As a fellow woman myself, I cannot sufficiently express how heartbreaking this is. I feel like – as our Lord says – we are sheep without a shepherd (Mat 9:36 ). I strongly believe our men, husbands, brothers and fathers have severely failed us in terms of leadership in spiritual matters. On one end, however, I still lay the blame, squarely, on each and every Christian girl. Because I do not think there is sufficient hunger in our church ladies to know the truth, hence the satisfaction in deception.

I sincerely hope this writing will stir your pink heart towards a new dawn in the African church; a new breed of women who are sound in doctrine and truth. And that will not happen unless we begin at the foundation. That is, we desperately need to return to the question: what is the Gospel of our salvation all about? Dear godly ladies: the Gospel is not ‘come to Jesus and you will get a husband.’ It is not ‘come, let’s deliver you from a marine spirit.’ The Gospel message is an entirely different message altogether. The term has to do with “good news” that God wants to tell us. And remember, where there is good news, there was bad news in the first place. That bad news is that we have sinned against a Holy God. You are not as good a person as you esteem yourself to be. (Rom 3:23-26). The Good News, therefore, is that you don’t have to be punished for your sins because Jesus has died in your place; your sins have been paid for once and for all! We are made right with God (that means forgiven) by placing our faith in Jesus Christ; in what He has done, not in what we can do. And the act of faith in Christ goes hand in hand with repentance; confessing your sins and resolving to walk in the newness of life. “You must be born again” (Joh 3:3). It does not matter who you are or what you have done. Therefore, my good women, I ask, have you heard the message of the Gospel piercing through your soul? Have you believed? Have you repented? Is there evidence of the new life of Christ in you?

Secondly, my good Christian ladies, is that we need to demand sound teaching from our pulpits. I strongly dispute the common mindset that good doctrine is only reserved for men, while women must be okay with shallow spirituality and emotionalism. A million times no. On the contrary, ladies equally need deep, Christ-centred, doctrinally defined, God honoring, Bible based doctrine, beginning in church all the way to the home. That is the only way we are going to raise a godly generation of Christian mothers and sisters. I would go on and recommend good resources from sound women who are teaching good doctrine to strengthen your grip on truth. That list would include people like Martha Peace, Susan Heck, Nancy Guthrie, Allie Stucky and our very own African pride, Ebele Light and Wanjiru Ng'ang'a

Finally, as per the cited verse above, you and I need to be women who are prepared to give ourselves physically in terms of ministry; to work for our Saviour. Remember the famous accusation coming from men that ‘the only thing that women are good at is talking.’ Perhaps that is true, but how about we use this gift for the Kingdom of God? Yes, telling others about the Glad Tidings of redemption! To gossip about what God has done for us. Let the words that come out of our mouths bring forth light to those who hear (Col 4:6). Don’t you think the world would be a much different place if this happened? The Lord is ready to use you, no matter your background, just like the Samaritan mistress (Joh 4:7-42). Recall how our Lord used this lady to testify to the whole city about a Prophet whose well gives out a kind of water that satisfies into eternal life. And yes, “many believed because of her testimony.”

One last thing, do not forget that more difference can be made and more people saved by our Christian conduct. I feel like my words cannot do justice to this, hence I will let Elder Peter to say it on my behalf, “Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewellery, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious” - Peter 3:1-4

My fellow Sisters in our Lord, it's either we continue being willing victims of deception or we choose to make a stop to all this and start chasing that which matters most, the original Gospel of our Saviour. It’s high time we are fed up with superficial, emotional and mindless spirituality. Now is the time for real Christianity that is based on true spirituality coming from a thoughtful understanding of profound Biblical truth. Arise, oh daughter of Zion!
