Try to reflect upon these words below; “I didn’t come to church last week because the devil hindered me. I then decided to pray at home but again I felt lazy because the devil was trying to weaken my spirit. My mother is also not feeling well; the devil attacked her with the spirit of sickness. I think I need to be strong in prayer because it seems like the devil is attacking me in every area of my life.” The above statement is indeed a harmless one – it seems, however, proper discernment will reveal that there is a lot of mention of the devil (too much) and what the evil one is doing and no mention of Christ all.  Why is that? There is a disease that continues to plague the African church in the name of false doctrine. Speaking from experience, I know how bad doctrine can make you a slave of something that is not true. There are many reasons for that of-course, but one such is that correct Bible interpretation is never taken seriously, especially by those in the teaching ministry. My concern though, is to those who are willing to learn these things; those who are, as Paul put it, “vessels of honor, sanctified and useful for the master” – so that they can rightly divide the Word of truth.   Scripture with Scripture There is no better way to interpret the Bible than the Bible itself. "False teacher" is a term that describes an individual who is being used by a devilish spirit to harm innocent souls using the Bible – for any reason such as money, fame or even unknowingly. From the preceding statement, we can learn that indeed this is a serious thing, but who is a false teacher? And what right does anyone have to call someone such? What is a true preacher anyways? Hermeneutics is a big word that simply describes the rules we follow in trying to correctly understand what the Bible teaches. It is a good thing to carry a Bible, but how do you read it? Anything that comes to mind when you read a Bible verse develops into an understanding of what you think it is talking about. That is called interpretation. Your interpretation develops further into your practical life; how you live or do things based on that understanding of that verse. That is called an application . The history of Bible interpretation The Old Testament was originally written in the Hebrew language while the New Testament is originally in Greek. To understand how it came to be the Bible we have today, let’s take for example Paul’s letter to the Romans. After he had hand-written it, it was sent to the churches in Rome as intended. After this, they made many copies of that original letter to share with other believers in other places. As time went by, so increased the number of these copies, reaching to where ever the Gospel reached. Those who did the coping were called Scribes and the copies became known as the  manuscripts . So far, there are more than 25 000 Bible manuscripts that have been discovered. A collection of these manuscripts is what produced books that were later compiled into one book called the Holy Bible.
