Can A Pastor Be Permanently Disqualified from Ministry?

Image
I assume that you already know that not every Believer can be a leader just because they are available. There are Biblical qualifications for Church leadership. That said, what if a trusted leader among us falls into a notoriously grievous sin? When such happens, there is a sect of God's children who believe that he can repent and be called back to the pulpit as soon as yesterday. “Jesus forgives”, they say. “Because no one is perfect.” On the other hand, some opinions hold the view that such scandalous situations mark the end of one's ministry. When a Pastor is caught on the wrong side of the bed, he can never be trusted again to lead in godliness; stepping down is the only solution – permanently! Case Study: Pastor Mamba got involved in an improper relationship with the church secretary. After they were caught, he took ownership of his sin, publicly apologised and vowed to never do it again. He was given a temporary leave from his role, attended a few counselling sessions and...

When the Best is not Enough

Image
I spent a good while last night deep in my mind. The occupant was a certain man in the Bible whose fame is greater than all the men who have ever walked on planet earth. Apparently, the Lord opened all the windows of the heavenly floodgates of wisdom to this man. As if that was not enough, a large bank of riches, gold and glory was given to him. Not to mention all the delicious spices, all the choicest clothing, the strongest horses, the most hardworking servants and even the best trained army with its most advanced equipment. To say that he was living the dream is an understatement. The man had a premium package of the earth's pleasures. Yet, how sad, actually how unfortunate that his deathbed confession was that all this was “vanity – a grasping of the wind” ( Eccl 2:18-26 ). It means there was something within himself that was still not satisfied with life. He always yearned for more. It’s like I can imagine him now; on top of his gold palace, having lost sleep long before sunr...

Ichabod: Has Glory Departed From The Church?

Image
And she named the child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel!” because the ark of God had been captured…1 Samuel 4:21 The Israelites trembled at the foot of the thundering smoke of Sinai. The Holy One had descended on top of that mountain, and His people were not ready for Him. They could not put up with the physical manifestation of His Holiness. Going forward, the solution was that the Ancient of Days would only share a portion of His glory in the form of the Tabernacle, most particularly the Ark of the Covenant. That meant that wherever God’s people went, as long as the Ark was with them, God was with them. Hence, the context of the above verse is the day when the Ark was captured by the enemies, the worst day in Israel’s history – the day when the Almighty departed from them. In the New Testament sense, the glory of God is present in the form of the Spirit of Christ inside every believer. Which means, as long as you are in Christ, God Himself is within you. This res...

The Message Translation: It’s Not A Bible!

Image
It worries me that there seems to be a new Bible translation almost every minute. Some of these Bibles are fairly good and very much helpful to the cause of the Church. However, as with everything, there is also an influx of terrible perversions. Our case study today is the Message Bible. I had already heard the outcry about this translation before, not that I cared much, until I heard one popular African minister preaching from it. That is when I realised that this poison is actually closer to our plate than we initially thought. Someone has to address it. The Message Bible was written and published by a man called Eugene Peterson, who, in his own words, decided to just “let go and became playful. And that was when the Sermon on the Mount started… And all of a sudden I realised this could work.” As you are already guessing, the Message Bible causes more harm to the Church than it offers solutions. These are the problems… A product of one individual . All the good Bibles that we posses...
