Christian Money Manners 2

Image
I will never qualify myself as a financial advisor. That is not my expertise by any stretch. I will always carry the badge of being a Gospel minister. However, Gospel ministry means I have to cast Biblical eyes upon every area of our lives, including money. We talk a lot about God’s people being the light of the world and the salt of the earth, yet we abandon this principle as soon as balance reflects into our accounts. Just in case you are joining us, we have already covered a lot of ground in the First Article . Otherwise, let’s continue learning about good money manners. Know the difference between good debt and bad debt What if there is a good second-hand smartphone for sale, but you are a little broke at this time? You decide to take a loan with interest payment conditions, you buy the phone and spend the next 3 months paying back the loan with its interest. Within 4 months, the phone falls into water & stops working. That is a bad debt. On another day, a similar thing is on s...

Rules of Engagement 2

Perhaps nobody was as Spirit-filled, sincere and Gospel fervent as the Apostle Paul. Yet we find that whenever this goodly man poured himself in the form of a sermon delivery, there were still some who mocked, jeered and accused him of being “babbling mad man.” This means that as long as you and I are still holding onto that same Gospel, not all will believe. No matter how good of a Christian man you are, no matter how loving you are in your Gospel presentation, somebody, somewhere will still rise up and call you a demon. What do you do when such happens? Do we become silent and just “ignore critics”? Actually, no. We answer back those sceptics and stand our ground with the truth. That is what we defined as Christian Apologetics the last time we held this meeting. Today, however, I want us to focus on the ‘how’ part. That is, how do you then answer back? What should be the Christian attitude and approach? I would like to redirect our attention back to the second part of 1 Peter 3:15 . ...

Managing Your Finances As A Believer

If you are like me, you are a surviving victim of the prosperity gospel. According to that world, money is something that will automatically appear on your account out of thin air. All you have to do is to speak it, claim it and possess it. Such bad teachings are the reason why God’s people – with all their good verses – still remain one of the most unwise people when it comes to the stock market. Unlike the “good old days”, the world we live in now seems to be getting tougher by every sunrise. The world economy system has no respect of either Christian man or holy man. Therefore, we need a healthy doctrine about money. Because, whether you like it or not, everything about your life is heavily dependent on the cash that comes through your hands. Believe it or not, besides the perversions of the success preachers, there are still sound Bible principles about handling your financial life. Here we go… Work for money I am looking right at Paul’s words, “… and to aspire to live quietly, an...

What Do You Know About Christian Apologetics?

Image
Oftentimes, we assume that everyone understands what the Christian faith is all about. And that they are very much on the same page with us in terms of religious profession. Lo and Behold! Many good souls, most particularly the sect of the young and intelligent, are leaving the Christian church now more than ever. Because they have been convinced (God knows by what) that all this “Bible stuff” doesn’t make sense after all. And who are we to blame them? Every human has a right to believe whatever they want to believe and to follow whatever path that has convinced them as the right way. Therein comes something called Christian Apologetics. Which, by its term, is nowhere near apologising about Christianity, but it’s derived from the Greek transliteration apologia , which means to reply in defence or to answer back. Christian Apologetics, therefore, is a system of answering the questions that critics pose against Christianity. It is what the good Apostle called believers to do in his 1st E...
